Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak (Quick, Easy, and Tons of Flavor)
My husband fell in love with these ground beef Philly cheesesteaks at first bite. I think he was a bit skeptical without the steak, but no hesitation, he said “these are amazing”! This recipe is great because the prep is easy and the process is quick. Dinner on the table in 25-minutes or less makes anyone in charge of the kitchen a happy cook.
The secret here is using sweet Hawaiian hoagie rolls. It makes all the difference. The sweetness from the rolls paired with all the savory beefy, umami flavors, is perfection. You can even turn these Philly cheesesteaks into sliders for a fun party or game day snack!

- Flavor boosters– Worcestershire sauce, onion soup mix, and garlic powder.
- Cheese– Provolone is a classic but feel free to use your favorite melting cheese.

- Use a lean ground beef so the rolls don’t become soggy.
- Sear the the ground beef whole on both sides before crumbling the meat. This adds awesome depth and flavor to the meat. See image above.
- Make it low-carb by skipping the bun and adding the meat and veggies over cauliflower rice or some greens. Don’t forget the cheese!
- For a spicy kick, add a few slices of pickled jalapenos to the top of your hoagie once it comes out of the oven.

25-Minute Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak
Equipment
- large skillet
- broil safe pan
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
- 6 ounces mushrooms, chopped or sliced I prefer chopped fine
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp onion soup mix such as Lipton
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4 Hawaiian hoagie rolls
- 4 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet to medium high heat and add 1 pound ground beef in one whole piece. Brown the ground beef whole on both sides until golden, about 2-3 minutes per side. Once browned, crumble into small pieces and continue to cook until the meat is no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Transfer cooked meat to a plate and set aside.
- To the same skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter, then add 1 small onion sliced, 1 medium green pepper sliced, and 6 ounces mushrooms chopped. Sauté until mushrooms are golden brown, about 6-7 minutes.
- Add ground beef back to the skillet with the veggies along with 1 tsp Worcestershire, 2 tbsp onion soup mix, and 1/2 tsp each garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and cook another 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat.
- At this time turn your broiler to high and place the top rack a few inches from the heat source. Not too close. Divide the meat mixture between the 4 hoagie rolls and top each roll with 1 slice of provolone cheese.
- Place the rolls on a broiler safe pan and broil for 30-seconds to 1-minute, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Enjoy right away!
