Banana Bread with Cinnamon Sugar
This easy Banana Bread is a family favorite. It’s light and moist with a crisp cinnamon sugar topping. The perfect way to start any morning.
My mom past down this Banana Bread recipe to me when I first got married. It’s been my go-to when I want something easy to bake without a lot of ingredients. I can have this baking in the oven in under 15 minutes. It’s moist and light and my family always welcomes a thick warm slice.
Ingredients For Banana Bread with Cinnamon Sugar:
- Ripe Bananas– You want the bananas to have dark spots on the skin. Ripe bananas are sweeter which will result in a great banana bread.
- Lemon juice– Helps preserve the color of the bananas. It will not change the flavor of the banana bread if you don’t have lemon juice.
- Butter– Can also substitute with vegetable or coconut oil.
- Applesauce– Applesauce is a common ingredient used in baking to reduce some of the fat, yet still maintain flavor and texture.
- Sugar- I use organic cane sugar but you can substitute for monk fruit sugar blend or favorite zero calorie sugar.
- Eggs- 2 large eggs to give the banana bread a fluffy texture.
- Vanilla extract- Pure vanilla extract lends the best flavor.
- Seasonings- Salt and cinnamon
Additional Add-ins:
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (scatter on top or mix into batter)
- Dried fruit – raisins, cranberries, chopped dry peaches
How to make Banana Bread with Cinnamon Sugar:
- Combine 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Set aside until ready to use.
- In a large bowl mash bananas and stir in lemon juice.
- Incorporate the melted butter, applesauce, sugar, eggs, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Sift the flour and baking soda into the wet ingredients, then gently fold in using a large spoon until you no longer see bits of flour. (if using additional add-ins like nuts or chocolate chips, fold those in now) Be careful not to overmix or stir rigorously.
- Pour batter into a greased loaf pan and smooth out the top.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture and bake at 325℉ for 1 hour or until toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool 15 minutes before slicing.
Can I Freeze Banana Bread?
Yes! Make sure to cool completely before storing in the freezer. I like to slice the bread first then wrap in wax or parchment paper, then a layer of foil. When your ready to enjoy, pull out as many slices as needed and let thaw at room temperature for 20-minutes. You can also microwave each slice for 1 minute when frozen.
