What You’ll Love About Big Mac Casserole:

  • Delicious Big Mac burger flavors
  • Easy to throw together on a busy weeknight
  • Kid friendly supper
  • Hearty and healthy

McDonalds classic Big Mac cheese burger was not a burger I ate often growing up because it was the more expensive burger on the menu. On the rare occasion that I did get to order one, oh man! The layers, the cheese, the shredded lettuce, and what about that unmistakable burger sauce that was drippy and delicious? It was definitely the Bee’s knees back in my day.

I thought it would be fun to change up burger night with this Big Mac Casserole and bring back the fun flavors of Mickey D’s favorite. And the great thing about this casserole is you can feel good about the ingredients and still have that crave worthy taste.

This is one of those recipes that is just unique enough, so if you make this casserole, be prepared to get the happy side-eye from your family.

My Burger In A Bowl is another fun option and perfect when your craving a burger but want something a little lighter.

Simple Ingredients:

  • Olive oil– Because we are using lean ground beef you’ll want to add a little oil.
  • Ground Beef– I use a leaner ground beef for this recipe.
  • Veggies– Onions, green bell peppers, and potatoes.
  • Seasonings– Garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  • Worcestershire sauce– This adds depth and brings out the flavor in the beef.
  • Yellow mustard- Adds flavor and a little zip to the ground beef.
  • Canned diced tomatoes– Adds richness and flavor.
  • Cheddar cheese– Because all burger inspired recipes need cheese in my opinion.
  • Burger sauce– Mayo, ketchup, dill pickles, pickle juice, mustard, onion.

Burger Toppings:

  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Dill Pickle slices
  • Red onion
  • Sesame seeds

Recipe Tip:

  • Make sure to cut the potatoes into small cubes so the casserole cooks faster in the oven. The larger the potato the longer it takes to bake.

How To Make Big Mac Casserole:

See full instructions in recipe card below

Step One. Heat oven to 350℉ and spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray.

Step Two. Heat a large skillet to medium heat. Add oil and ground beef. Cook the meat breaking into crumbles until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat. Next add onion and green pepper. Cook veggies about 2-3 minutes until softened, then stir in seasonings, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Remove from the heat.

Step Three. To the prepared casserole dish add potatoes, canned tomatoes, and ground beef mixture. Stir to combine. Sprinkle the top with shredded cheese then cover tightly with foil. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

Step Four. While the casserole bakes prepare the toppings and make the burger sauce. In a small bowl combine burger sauce ingredients, then place in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Step Five. When the casserole is finished baking set out toppings and burger sauce and let everyone add what they love.

Common Questions:

đź—¨Can I use ground turkey instead of beef?

Yes. While the beef will give it a classic burger flavor, ground turkey will be your best option if you want something a little lighter. I would not recommend ground chicken.

đź—¨Can I make Big Mac Casserole ahead of time?

Yes! Make up to one day in advance. Prepare the casserole as directed up until the cheese. Cover tightly and place in the refrigerator until ready to bake. Remove from the refrigerator 30-minutes before baking and add cheese. Cover with foil and bake as directed.

đź—¨Can I make this without the potatoes for a lower-carb version?

Absolutely! Replace the potatoes with partially cooked cauliflower pieces. You’ll want about 4 cups total. Make sure the pieces are on the smaller side.

đź—¨Could I use frozen hashbrown cubes instead of raw potatoes?

Yes! Make sure the hashbrown cubed potatoes are completely thawed and you’ll want about 4 cups. you’ll also reduce the baking time down to 30-35 minutes making this meal even faster.
