The simple ingredients alone make this a desirable dessert to whip up, but the fresh peach flavors coupled with the nutty brown butter cake mix is absolute heaven.

What Is A Dump Cake?

If you've never had a dump cake before, the ingredients usually consist of fruit (often times canned) cake mix and butter. The result is a gooey cake fruit combo with a buttery top that resembles a cobbler. It's truly the simplest dessert to throw together and will always please a crowd.

I took this classic easy dessert and elevated it by using fresh peaches while they are in-season, and brown butter to add more flavor and depth. This might be the best dump cake recipe I've ever had!

Simple Ingredients:

  • Peaches- I use fresh, ripe peaches when in-season.
  • Brown sugar- Adds a rich, deep flavor.
  • Cinnamon- A touch of warmth.
  • Lemon juice- To balance out the sweetness.
  • Vanilla extract- Vanilla and peaches are the perfect combination.
  • Corn starch- This will help thicken the sauce in the peach mixture.
  • Cake mix- Yellow cake mix has a sweeter vanilla flavor so it's perfect for peach dump cake.
  • Brown butter- Offers a nutty, rich flavor.

Substitutions:

  • Brown Sugar- White sugar will work in place of brown sugar.
  • Cake mix- For this recipe you can also use a white or vanilla flavored cake mix.
  • Brown butter- Use regular melted butter if you don't want to take the time to brown it.

How To Make Brown Butter Fresh Peach Dump Cake:

See full instructions in recipe card below

Step One. Heat oven to 350℉ and spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray.

Step Two. Add sliced peaches to a bowl and toss with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla, and corn starch.

Step Three. Spread peach mixture evenly in prepared baking dish.

Step Four. Add cake mix and brown butter to a bowl and mix until pea size crumbles form.

Step Five. Spread cake mix evenly over the top of the peach mixture. Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes or until top is bubbly and browned.

What To Serve With Peach Dump Cake:

A nice big scoop of vanilla ice cream is always a favorite, or dollop with fresh whipped cream for something a little lighter.

Recipe Tips:

  • How to make brown butter- Add butter to a small pan over medium low heat. Stir constantly as it starts to foam. The color of the butter will turn from yellow to a deep golden brown and have a nutty scent. Remove from the heat until you're ready to use.
  • Serve dump cake warm- The best way to serve dump cake is warm out of the oven when the peach filling is still gooey and the top is crisp and buttery.

Common Questions:

🗨Can I use canned peaches?

Yes! You'll want to use two large cans of peaches in light syrup, including the juice. If using canned peaches you won't need to add any of the additional peach ingredients.

🗨Why is my dump cake still powdery on top after it bakes?

This could be due to not mixing the melted brown butter well with the cake mix. Make sure to incorporate well so you see lots of pea size pieces in the mixture.

🗨Why don't you mix the ingredients together for a dump cake?

A classic dump cake is layered with fruit then topped with cake mix and butter. This results in a cobbler like crust with a thick fruit compote mixture on the bottom.
