Whether you grew up eating English Muffin Pizzas or not you are sure to enjoy these tasty and satisfying mini pizza pies. What’s not to love?! A toasted English muffins topped with sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings.
This was a classic birthday party food when I was growing up and all the kids loved making their own. I’m sure my mom loved it too because it wasn’t much work and an easy-to-please-meal. It’s also a great option for busy weeknights or when you need a semi-night off.
If you love pizza you’ll also enjoy my Breakfast Pizza. It’s an awesome way to start the day but it’s perfect for dinner too!
Simple Ingredients:
- English muffins- I love to use Thomas sourdough English muffins for making pizzas because they have a nice chewy texture while still maintaining crispness.
- Marinara– Any kind of pizza sauce will do. I like Marinara because it has a rich tomato sauce flavor.
- Mozzarella cheese– A classic pizza cheese but use what you love or have on hand.
- Toppings- Get creative with the ingredients you enjoy on a pizza. For a simple approach we went with turkey pepperoni (so it’s less greasy) green bell peppers, black olives, dried oregano, and fresh basil.
As you know it, pizza is super versatile and the combinations are endless which is why pizza night in general is so much fun. Use your favorite meats, cheeses, veggies, and sauces.
How To Make English Muffin Pizzas:
Step One. You’ll want to start by toasting the English muffin halves on a pizza pan or sheet pan for 5-minutes in a 425℉ degree oven. This will prevent the bottom from becoming soggy while it cooks with the toppings.
Step Two. Spread a thin layer ( or as much as you like) of sauce on the pre-toasted muffin. Add a layer of cheese, then top with toppings, seasonings, and a little more cheese.
Step Three. Place back in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges are toasted.
Additional Toppings:
- Fresh sliced tomatoes
- Parmesan cheese
- Pepperoncini peppers
- Balsamic glaze
- Red pepper flakes
- Ranch for dipping
Other Pizza Combinations:
- Canadian bacon and pineapple– red sauce, cheese, Canadian bacon, and pineapple
- BBQ chicken– BBQ sauce, cheese, cooked chicken, red onion slices, and pineapple
- Veggie– red sauce, cheese, mushrooms, zucchini, onions, and tomatoes
- Meat lovers- red sauce, cheese, cooked hamburger, salami, pepperoni, green bell peppers, and black olives
- Taco– taco sauce, refried beans, cheese, taco meat, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and crushed nacho cheese tortilla chips
Common Questions:
Yes! You can even freeze the pizzas after they’ve completely cooled in a freezer safe bag. The best way to re-heat pizzas from the refrigerator is by putting them in a 350℉ degree oven on a sheet pan and bake until cheese is bubbly and hot, about 7-8 minutes. If from the freezer, bake 10-12 minutes. You can also microwave the pizzas in a pinch but it’s not the best reheated. Place on a paper towel lined microwave safe plate and heat until cheese is just melted.
If the English muffin becomes soggy that could be due to not pre-baking the muffin before adding the toppings, or using too much sauce or toppings.
This depends highly on the toppings, however, English muffins in general is a healthier option for crust. They have minerals and antioxidants, along with magnesium, which is great for bone health. Try using the multi-grain English muffins to add extra nutrients.
