One of our favorite meals to make during the weekday is baked potatoes. They are easy, filling and satisfying, and the topping options are endless.
These Grilled Foil Pack Potatoes are a fun change from traditional baked spuds and it is sure to add some variety to your menu. You’ll love the grilled smoky flavor and golden crispy edges. This is a no-mess prep and the clean-up is just a matter of tossing away the foil pouch. And lets be honest, the best part is all those baked potato goodies like cheese, bacon, and sour cream.
This is a perfect summer recipe when you want to be outside using the grill. It can be a side dish with grilled chicken, burgers, or steaks. Or make these grilled potatoes as a main meal when you want something simple and quick.

What is the best potatoes to use for grilling?
For this recipe we went with classic russet potatoes. They grill up beautifully and the thicker skin gets nice and crispy. You can also use red potatoes, Yukon gold, or fingerling. I don’t think you can make a mistake on which type of potato you use, they will turn out delicious!

How To Make Grilled Foil Pack Potatoes:
Step 1. Cube potatoes and add them to a bowl. Combine with olive oil, seasoned salt, and pepper.
Step 2. Divide potatoes in a single layer on a foil sheet sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Dot with butter than tightly fold on all four sides.

Step 3. Place foil packs on a grill set to medium high heat. Turn every 5-minutes for 20-minutes or until potatoes are tender and deep golden brown.
Step 4. Meanwhile prepare the toppings. Cook bacon until crispy and roughly chop. Shred cheese, and thinly slice green onion. When potatoes are cooked, top with cheese, bacon, onions, and sour cream. Serve immediately.
What If I don’t Have A Grill?
You can easily bake these foil packs in the oven on a sheet pan. Follow the foil pack instructions and bake at 425℉ for 25-30 minutes.
Recipe Tips:
- Make sure to secure the foil packs tightly before placing them on the grill.
- Don’t over fill the foil packs as will take longer to cook.
- Place potatoes in a single layer to ensure each potato gets nice and crispy.
- Allow to cool 5-minutes before opening. The foil will be hot.
- Make sure to spray each foil sheet with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Grilled Foil Pack Potatoes
Ingredients
- 3 medium size russet potatoes, scrubbed clean with skins on
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter cut in small pieces
- 2 tsp seasoned salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- non-stick cooking spray
Toppings:
- crispy cooked bacon crumbles
- shredded cheddar cheese
- green onion slices
- sour cream
Instructions
- Cut clean potatoes in 1-inch pieces and add them to a medium bowl. Combine with olive oil, seasoned salt, and pepper.
- Divide potatoes in a single layer between two 12×12 inch foil sheets that have been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. I like to double up on the sheets so they don't easily break when grilling. Dot the top of the potatoes with butter pieces than tightly fold in on all four sides.
- Place foil packs on a grill set to medium high heat. Turn every 5-minutes for 20-minutes or until potatoes are tender and deep golden brown.
