Skillet meals have become an important part of my weekly rotation over the last couple of years. With everyone going in different directions I need dinner made fast and clean up easy. Skillet meals offer just that!
This Skillet Ravioli with Meat Sauce makes the perfect weeknight meal for its ease and minimal dishes, but it’s also delicious and worthy enough to make for Friday night company.
We use store-brand ravioli for easy preparation, and the meat sauce is just a few ingredients; most you probably have in your pantry.
There is no shortage of skillet meals here. Our family favorites include Philly Cheesesteak Skillet Meal, Skillet Chicken Spaghetti with Spinach, and One-Skillet Chicken and Rice just to name a few.
Simple Ingredients:
- Ravioli– I use butternut squash stuffed ravioli from Trader Joe’s which is absolutely divine with the meat sauce.
- Avocado or Olive oil- Adds a little fat while you cook the turkey and onions.
- Ground Turkey– I like ground turkey for a lighter option.
- Onions and garlic– This helps build the flavor for the sauce.
- Seasonings– Italian seasoning, salt and pepper
- Tomato paste– Adds depth to the sauce.
- Crushed tomatoes– For extra flavor I used crushed tomatoes with oregano and basil.
- Mozzarella cheese– I prefer to shred the cheese myself for a fresher, cheesier taste.
Substitutions and Add-Ins:
- Ravioli- Use your favorite stuffed ravioli. Spinach and cheese, mushrooms and cheese, or plain cheese are all great options.
- Ground meat- If you want more of a beefy flavor use lean ground beef. Ground pork and Italian sausage is also a great option.
- Tomato Sauce- A jar of your favorite pasta sauce can be used in place of the crushed tomatoes.
- Veggies- Add additional veggies to the meat sauce like mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach.
How To Make Skillet Ravioli with Meat Sauce:
See full instructions in recipe card below
Step One. Cook ravioli according to the package directions. Set aside until ready to use.
Step Two. Heat a large oven safe skillet over medium heat and add avocado or olive oil. Add ground turkey and onion. Crumble and cook turkey until no longer pink, then add garlic, seasonings, and tomato paste. Cook a few minutes until fragrant.
Step Three. Stir in crushed tomatoes and simmer for 5-minutes.
Step Four. Add ravioli and gently fold into the meat sauce. Top with mozzarella cheese and place under the broiler for a 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese and brown the top. Top with fresh basil before serving.
Recipe Tip:
- Cooking ravioli- I like to undercook the ravioli by about 1-minute. This will prevent tears in the pasta when incorporating with the meat sauce.
What To Serve With Skillet Ravioli:
Try these options for a simple side dish- Nana’s Viral Crunchy Lemon Salad, Green Salad with Apple Cider Dressing, Layered Green Salad, or Green Beans Almondine. Don’t forget the hunk of crusty bread!
Common Questions:
Yes! Place cooled skillet ravioli in a disposable pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Seal with two layers of foil and place in the freezer for up to 2 months. Allow to thaw before baking in a 350℉ oven covered for 35-40 minutes. Take the foil off and broil the top for 1 minute to brown.
This skillet meal will last 4-5 days in a sealed container. Reheat in the microwave or oven.

- Add crushed tomatoes and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a low simmer and cook about 5-minutes. Add cooked ravioli and gently fold in with the meat sauce. Top with mozzarella cheese and place under the broiler for 1-minute or until the cheese is bubbly and the top starts to brown.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve immediately.
