Sloppy Joe Sliders

The ultimate crowd pleaser party food or easy dinner idea. Your guests, family, and friends will go nuts for these Sloppy Joe Sliders. Soft buns, cheesy beef filling, and a buttery brown sugar glaze, yes and yes!

What You’ll Love About Sloppy Joe Sliders:

  • Delicious appetizer or party food
  • Kid friendly dinner
  • Easy to make
  • Homemade sloppy Joe filling

Everything you love about sloppy Joe’s in a cheesy, beefy, bite-size burger bun. These Sloppy Joe Sliders are outstanding and while I love my trusty Homemade Sloppy Joe Recipe, I might have just found a new favorite!

What makes these different and so darn delicious from traditional sloppy Joe’s is the baking time. When you put cheese and meat in-between two soft buns with a brush of buttery brown sugar glaze, it is pure magic in the oven.

The sloppy Joe filling I use for these sliders is very similar to my original SJ recipe only a few less items. I also use beef for a richer flavor.

With football season in full swing and the holidays coming up this is the perfect thing to make for a party or a simple weeknight dinner.

Simple Ingredients:

  • Dinner rolls- I like to use classic dinner rolls for this recipe.
  • Ground beef- I use extra lean ground beef so the buns don’t get weighted down with extra grease.
  • Onions and garlic- Offer aromatics and flavor the beef.
  • Tomato sauce and Tomato Paste- This combination will add a rich tomato flavor.
  • Worcestershire sauce and Molasses- This will add depth and savory flavors.
  • Yellow mustard- You can also use Dijon mustard for a little tang.
  • Seasonings- Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cheese- I use a medium cheddar cheese.

Butter Brown Sugar Glaze:

Substitutions:

  • Buns- You can also use sweet Hawaiian rolls, or brioche style butter rolls.
  • Meat- Ground turkey or chicken can be used in place of the beef, however, it will change the flavor.
  • Cheese- Use your favorite melting cheese such as Colby Jack, Pepper Jack, Monterey Jack, or sharp cheddar cheese.
  • Everything bagel seasoning- If you don’t have everything bagel seasoning on hand you can use plain sesame seeds and garlic powder.

How To Make Sloppy Joe Sliders:

See full instructions in recipe card below

Step One. Preheat oven to 350℉.

Step Two. Heat a large skillet to medium heat and cook ground beef, onions, and garlic until beef is fully cooked.

Step Three. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire, molasses, yellow mustard, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and allow to cook until thickened.

Step Four. Meanwhile make the glaze by combining all the glaze ingredients minus the bagel seasoning.

Step Five. Slice the dinner rolls in half and place the bottom half in a 9Ă—13 inch baking dish. Top with half the cheese and evenly spread on the sloppy joe mixture. Top with remaining cheese and place the other bun half on top. Brush the tops of the buns with the brown sugar butter mixture and sprinkle with bagel seasoning.

Step Six. Place in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes or until the top buns are slightly crisp and the cheese is fully melted. Slice and enjoy!

Tip:

  • Prevent a soggy bun- Make sure to simmer the meat sauce long enough so it is thick with no extra liquid. This will help prevent a soggy bun. Also drain any excess grease from the ground beef.

Common Questions:

đź—¨How can I make sloppy Joe’s healthier?

Use a lean ground meat like turkey or chicken. Whole wheat or whole grain buns offer additional nutrition. You can also use a low-fat shredded cheese to reduce the calories.

đź—¨Does sloppy joe sliders reheat well?

I actually tested this and yes, they do reheat well. You can microwave until warmed through. The buns are soft but not soggy. Or wrap the sliders in foil and place in the oven at 350℉ for 20-minutes. Open up the foil and bake an additional 5-minutes to toast the top bun.

đź—¨What is the best way to store leftover sliders?

Wrap sliders in parchment paper, then foil. Place in the refrigerator for up to two days.
