There is nothing quite like the scent of ham cooking to make your kitchen smell amazing. It has a comforting factor that says “you’re home, you’re safe, and you’re about to eat well.
When I was growing up we always had ham as an option at every holiday meal. Even if my mom made a big roast or turkey, there was still a small ham involved.
Slow Cooker Ham with Brown Sugar Glaze is basically an effortless option especially if you’re going to be serving another protein. Using the slow cooker frees up oven space and it can easily stay nice and toasty in the crockpot until meal time.
You’ll love the simple glaze that takes 30-seconds to whip up and every morsel is spread all over the ham, seeping down between each slice. Yum! It offers a delicious sweetness while the ham slow cooks for a few hours. I also use pineapple slices which help keep the ham tender but also balances the smoky flavor.
For convenience and ease, I use a boneless ham, and if you’re lucky to find one that is already pre-sliced, even better! This makes prepping and serving so much easier.
If you enjoy pork my Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Vegetables will also make an incredible holiday or Sunday supper.
Simple Ingredients

- Ham– For this recipe we use a pre-cooked boneless ham. This makes it super easy to slice and serve.
- Pineapple- We use canned pineapple slices and the juice to keep the ham tender while it cooks.
- Glaze– Light brown sugar, honey, all-spice, Dijon mustard, and butter.
Substitutions
- Ham- If you prefer a bone-in ham, feel free to use that instead. You may need to adjust the cooking time on your slow cooker to make sure it warms all the way through.
- Pineapple– If pineapple is in season this would be a time to use it, just don’t forget you still need pineapple juice. You can also use orange slices and juice for a more citrus flavor.
- Mustard– Whole grain, brown, and even yellow mustard can be used in place of the Dijon.
Step By Step Directions
See full instructions in recipe card below
Step One. Remove any netting the ham may have from the grocery store. If your ham is not sliced, use a sharp knife to slice into half inch ham steaks. Place the ham in the slow cooker and pour pineapple juice over the top of the ham.

Step Two. Meanwhile, combine all the glaze ingredients until you have a thick paste. Spread all over the top and sides of the ham. I just use my clean hands, it’s much easier.

Step Three. Next place pineapple slices all around the sides and top of ham. Use toothpicks to secure the pineapple slices on top of the ham. Place the lid on and cook ham on low for 3-4 hours. Baste the ham with leftover liquid from the slow cooker just before serving. Note: Cooking time is for a 5 pound boneless ham.
(Optional) Step Four. Brown the ham and pineapple slices under the broiler for a few minutes to caramelize. This makes the presentation beautiful and adds great flavors.

Serving Tips
- 🍽 I love to place the the ham on a large platter and garnish with the pineapple slices to make the ham inviting and beautiful. After-all, we eat with our eyes first. You can also add citrus fruit like lemon and orange slices or garnish with bright green parsley.
- 🍽 You should have plenty of leftover glaze and juice in the slow cooker. Serve this along side the ham so everyone can add a drizzle to their serving.
- 🍽 Serve ham with a variety of side dishes like Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes, Gourmet Potatoes, Baked Corn Casserole, Spring Rice Salad, Creamy and Cheesy Broccoli Casserole, Green Beans Almondine.
Additional Tips
- 💡Pre-slice ham- If your ham does not come pre-sliced, you’ll want to make sure and slice it before you add it to the slow cooker. This will allow the glaze and juices to soak in-between the slices, infusing flavor into the ham.
- 💡Don’t over-cook the ham- Depending on the size of your ham, a good rule of thumb is cook ham 15-20 minutes per pound or until the internal temp reaches 145℉.
- 💡Browning the top- When the ham is fully cooked, you can caramelize the top by placing the ham under the broiler in the oven for a few minutes, just until the top starts to brown. I like to do the same with the pineapple slices.
Storage and Reheating
- Storing ham: Keep leftover ham in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Freezing: Wrap slices in foil or plastic wrap, then store in a freezer bag or secure container for up to 3 months.
- Reheating: The best way to reheat ham is in the oven wrapped in foil with a little liquid like water or chicken broth. Close up tightly and heat at 300℉ until warmed through. You can also put ham in the microwave but it doesn’t lend the best results.
