Sweet Glazed Pigs In A Blanket - The Ultimate Party Appetizer

Pigs in a blanket have proven to be a hit at every casual party. I've never seen a plate left with even one crumb. This timeless appetizer never goes out of style and disappears fast at a gathering.

We've been enjoying classic hot dogs wrapped in crescent dough for years at our Halloween get-togethers, Super Bowl feasts, and all kinds of party celebrations. They're the kind of appetizer that everyone fights over-the last one never lasts long! If I can give you one helpful tip: make more than you think - trust me, you'll be glad you did!

This sweet glazed version takes them to a whole new level. A quick brush of butter, honey, brown sugar, and Dijon adds a subtle sweetness and sticky finish that elevates this nostalgic favorite without changing what makes it so loved.

And don't worry, it's not much extra work! Just mix the glaze, brush it over the little piggies, and bake. The result? An appetizer everyone goes back for again and again.

Ingredients You Need

See ingredient amounts in the printable recipe card below.

  • Crescent rolls- This can be any brand. I really like the trader Joes organic rolls.
  • Hot dogs- Use a well seasoned hot dog for best flavor. Nathan's is superb in taste and texture.
  • Glaze- Butter, brown sugar, honey, and Dijon mustard.
  • Poppy seeds- This is optional but adds a fun touch. Sesame seeds and everything bagel seasoning would be a great addition as well.

Important Tip

  • Keep crescent dough cold: Make sure to keep the crescent dough in the refrigerator to stay cold while you preheat the oven and prepare the hotdogs. This will make rolling out the dough much easier.

How To Make and Assemble Pigs In A Blanket

  • Prep the hot dogs- Start by cutting all of the hot dogs into thirds. Set aside.
  • Prepare the dough- Remove the crescent dough sheet from the can and keep it in one piece. Using a rolling pin, gently roll the dough to slightly thin it and create larger, more even triangles.
  • Cut the dough- Separate the dough into triangles, then use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut each triangle into three smaller triangles.
  • Assemble the pigs in a blanket- Place one mini hot dog at the wide end of each small triangle and roll it up snugly. Place seam-side down on a prepared sheet pan.
  • Make the glaze- In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, honey, and Dijon mustard until smooth.
  • Glaze the piggies- Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the glaze over each pig in a blanket. Be careful not to overdo it-just enough to coat the tops. Sprinkle the tops with poppy seeds if desired.
  • Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve- Let cool slightly, then serve warm. Enjoy as-is or with your favorite dipping sauces.

Ang's Helpful Tips and Variations

  • Don't overdo the glaze. A light brushing is all you need. Too much can pool on the pan and burn.
  • Line your baking sheet. Parchment, especially, makes cleanup easy with the sticky glaze.
  • Seal the dough well. Place the dough seam-side down so they stay wrapped while baking.
  • Serve warm. These are best straight from the oven when the glaze is glossy and the dough is flaky.
  • Use little smokies. Little smokies are convenient and can be used in place of hotdogs.
