Where Did Cream Cheese Pepper Jelly Appetizer Come From?

Cream cheese and pepper jelly originated sometime near the 1970’s in Texas. It became a widespread appetizer that people have loved and enjoyed for years.

Whether you’re hosting a fancy holiday gathering or watching the football game, this dip is fantastic!

My Easy French Onion Dip also comes together in minutes and makes a great snack or appetizer for any occasion.

3Simple Ingredients:

Ingredients- whipped cream cheese, pepper jelly, fresh jalapeno
  • Cream cheese- I like to use whipped cream cheese for extra creaminess and you don’t need to let it sit out to soften. It is ready to go right from the fridge to the serving dish. However, you can use a block of cream cheese and it will still be a hit.
  • Pepper jelly- I really love the Trader Joe’s Pepper Jelly but there are so many varieties, I haven’t met one I didn’t enjoy.
  • Jalapeno- This is optional but I like to slice thin rings of fresh jalapenos and use it as a garnish. It looks festive and it offers extra heat for those that want more spice.

What Is The Best Thing To Serve with this appetizer?

You’ll want to serve this dip with your favorite buttery or salty crackers. Ritz is the most common and it truly compliments the cheesy and spicy fruit flavors. Pretzel thins and pita chips are sturdy and hold up well with the dip. Celery sticks and mini sweet peppers are also great options for something a little lighter with a nice crunch.

Assembling Whipped Cream Cheese Pepper Jelly Dip:

See full instructions in recipe card below

  • Use a wide bowl or plate and spread whipped cream cheese to the edge. Pour pepper jelly over the top and garnish with sliced jalapenos to make it look festive. Serve with your favorite crackers or veggies.

Super simple!

Recipe Tip:

  • đź’ˇUse a good quality cream cheese- Make sure to use a quality brand whipped cream cheese like Kraft Philadelphia or Tillamook for the best creaminess and texture.

Common Questions:

đź—¨How far in advance can I make this cream cheese dip?

This can be assembled up to 6 hours in advance. The longer it sits in the refrigerator it will accumulate extra moisture from the jelly. If this happens just pour off the liquid and serve.

đź—¨How long does leftovers last?

This will keep fresh in the refrigerator for 4-5 days sealed in a container.

đź—¨Can I make this with low-fat or fat-free cream cheese?

Low-fat cream cheese would work fine but I would not recommend fat-free as it doesn’t have a creamy, spreadable texture.

đź—¨Is this super spicy?

The spice level all depends on the brand of the pepper jelly. Some are very mild and some definitely pack some heat. The Trader Joe’s brand that I love has a little kick but it’s not crazy.
