Instructions
Blueberry Lavender Simple Syrup
Dissolve 1 cup of sugar in 1 1/2 cups of water in a pot on medium heat. Stir constantly.
When water is clear, add blueberries and dried lavender. Stir to combine and bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low and cook for 5 minutes. The berries should be broken down and the mixture a dark purple color. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
After simple syrup is cooled, strain liquid through a fine strainer and discard the pulp. You may have to do this twice depending on your strainer. You want the liquid to be smooth and free of skin, seeds and lavender buds.
Assemble Lemonade
Add 6 cups of water to a large pitcher along with lemon juice and blueberry simple syrup. Stir to combine and place in fridge to chill.
Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices and fresh blueberries.
Notes
Tips:
Place lemons in the microwave- To get the most juice out of your lemons, place them whole in the microwave for a few seconds to soften the inside.
Fresh berries are best- Using fresh blueberries adds the most berry flavor to lemonade.
Dried lavender- Not all dried lavender is equal. Make sure to use culinary grade. Some lavender can be bitter so you want to make sure it's made for consuming.
Use a fine mesh strainer like this one to ensure you get the smoothest simple syrup.
