Burger In A Bowl is basically all the wonderful things you love about a classic burger minus the bun. Whether you're trying to watch your carbs or want something a little lighter, you will love the flavors of these Burger bowls.

Ingredients
  

Ground beef mixture

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, diced fine
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp Wocestershire
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce I used no sugar added sweet baby rays
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Burger Bowls

  • 1 medium head iceberg lettuce, chopped washed and dried
  • 2 medium size tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup red onion, thinly silced
  • 1 cup sliced dill pickles
  • 2 avocados, sliced thin
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1000 island dressing

Instructions
 

  • Heat a medium skillet to medium heat and add olive oil, chopped yellow onions, and a pinch of salt. Cook 5-minites or until golden brown.
  • Add ground beef to the onions and crumble. Cook until no longer pink and drain any excess grease. Incorporate the water, Worcestershire, mustard, BBQ sauce, and garlic powder. Cook another 5-7 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste and remove from the heat to cool slightly.
  • Build burger bowls by adding lettuce and the rest of the toppings, ending with 1000 island dressing.

Notes

Tips:
  • Lettuce– Wash and store lettuce in the refrigerator in a sealed plastic bag for at least 1-hour before chopping. This ensures the leaves are nice and crunchy. For best results use iceberg or romaine.
  • Ground meat– The best, classic burger flavor will come from using ground beef but ground turkey also works great. If you’re using a higher fat ground beef, drain the excess grease.
  • Toppings- Use other burger toppings like crumbled baconsautéed mushroomsblue cheese crumbles, and caramelized onions.
