I was super skeptical about trying out these burger bowls. When I think about ground beef coupled with lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes, it’s taco salad all the way! Let me tell you, Burger In A Bowl far exceeded my expectations! I’m excited to add this to my rotation of weekly recipes.
These burger bowls not only come together so quickly (like under 30-minutes) but the flavors are a perfect match to a classic burger. Even my husband who isn’t big on salads was super impressed.
The key is to make sure and season the ground beef well. I use simple pantry ingredients like Worcestershire, yellow mustard, BBQ sauce, and seasonings. I could eat the beef alone with a little cheese it’s that good.

Ingredients For Burger In A Bowl:
Ground beef mixture-
- Olive oil
- Lean ground beef
- Yellow onion
- Water
- Worcestershire
- Yellow mustard
- BBQ sauce ( I use no sugar added Sweet Baby Ray’s)
- Garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
Burger toppings-
- Lettuce (iceberg or romaine is best)
- Tomaotes
- Cheddar cheese
- Red onion
- Pickles
- Avocado
- 1000 island dressing (homemade or store bought)

If you put anything on your meal plan menu for the week you have to add these Burger Bowls. Seriously, you won’t believe how much they resemble a juicy cheese burger. And definitely get creative with the toppings, and don’t shy on the 1000 island dressing. My homemade version is awesome and easy to make and it’s the perfect condiment to these bowls.

Easy Step by Step Burger In A Bowl:
Step 1. Heat a medium size skillet and add olive, chopped onions, and a little salt. Cook about 5-minutes just until the onions start to brown.
Step 2. Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Add the water, Worcestershire, yellow mustard, BBQ sauce, garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper. Cook another 5-7 minutes.
Step 3. Build your bowls starting with the ground beef, then the rest of the toppings. Drizzle on as little or as much of the 1000 island dressing as you want, but no really, go heavy.

This is also a great meal if your hosting a casual dinner. Set out all the toppings and let your guests build their own bowls. And I’m telling you, everyone will be so surprised by how yummy and satisfying it is even without the bun.
Pro Tips:
- Lettuce– Wash and store lettuce in the refrigerator in a sealed plastic bag for at least 1-hour before chopping. This ensures the leaves are nice and crunchy. For best results use iceberg or romaine.
- Ground meat– The best classic burger flavor will come from using ground beef but ground turkey also works great. If you’re using a higher fat ground beef, make sure to drain the excess grease.
- Toppings- Use other burger toppings like crumbled bacon, sautéed mushrooms, blue cheese crumbles, and caramelized onions.
