Pierogi and Smoked Sausage Skillet Meal
Tender dumplings filled with creamy potatoes and cooked golden brown with smoked sausage, cabbage, onions, and spices. A 30-minutes skillet meal that's unique and unexpectedly delicious.

- 1 (16) ounce package potato and cheese pierogi or use other fillings you would enjoy
- 2 tbsp butter, divided
- 2 tbsp avocado or olive oil, divided
- 1 smoked turkey sausage rope sliced in 1/2 moon slices or use your favorite smoked sausage brand
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 (14) ounce package coleslaw mix I use the one with carrots, red, and white cabbage
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp celery salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- fresh parsley for garnish optional
You’ll want to boil your pierogi for about 3 minutes in a medium pot then drain. Set aside.
In a large non-stick skillet heat butter and oil. Add sliced sausage and cook until golden brown in spots, about 5-mintues. Add onions and cook another couple minutes then toss in coleslaw mix and seasonings. Sauté for 3-4 minutes just until the cabbage is wilted. Transfer sausage and cabbage mixture to a large bowl. Meanwhile add a little more butter and oil to the heated skillet. Gently place cooked pierogi in a single layer in the pan. Sear on both sides until golden brown, about 2-minutes per side.
Add the sausage and cabbage back to the skillet with the pierogi and toss gently. Top with fresh parsley if desired and serve.
Tips:
- Pierogi comes in different sizes and flavors so use what you would enjoy. They have mini size ones that I think would work really well in this recipe.
- Make sure to use a non-stick skillet. This will ensure the pierogi doesn't stick when browning.
