- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb lean ground turkey
- 1/2 lb lean Italian turkey sausage such as Jenny-O
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper or any color bell pepper
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 16 oz pre-sliced baby bella mushrooms
- 1 25 oz jar favorite pasta sauce I used Metzzetta tomato basil pasta sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4-1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp chopped flat leaf parsley optional
Heat a large deep skillet or pot to medium heat and add 1 tbsp olive oil, onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté until veggies start to soften.
Stir in the mushrooms and seasonings. Sauté until mushrooms are browned and soft and most of the liquid has evaporated. Remove from pan and set aside.
Add 1 more tbsp olive oil and ground meat to the hot pan. Cook, breaking up the meat into crumbles until no longer pink. Drain if there is a lot of grease but a little liquid is just fine.
Combine the veggies and pasta sauce with the meat and bring to a simmer. Cook stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes. Sauce should be thick and delicious!
Add in some fresh parsley and serve over your favorite pasta.
Ground Meat- Use turkey, beef, pork, chicken, or lamb. I use a 2-1 ratio. 1 lb Lean ground turkey or beef, and 1/2 lb Italian turkey, or pork sausage.
Store-Bought Pasta Sauce- Any kind of store-bought pasta sauce will work. Here are my favorites.
- Mezzetta Tomato Basil - This is one of my favorites. It's thick and rich and doesn't have any added sugars,
- Rao's Pasta Sauce - They are especially known for their marinara sauce. Flavorful, no sugars added, carb conscious, and all-natural.
- Newman's Own Sockarooni - This pasta sauce has a chunkier consistency so it creates a thicker, meatier sauce.
- Emeril's Tomato Basil - You can't go wrong with Emeril. He has a variety of sauces made with quality ingredients.
This recipe serves 5-6 people.
