Why You’ll Love Chocolate Peanut Butter Ritz Cracker Christmas Crack:

  • Simple to make Christmas treat that’s always a hit.
  • Easy to package for a special homemade gift.
  • It’s delicious and irresistibly good.

They truly don’t call this “crack” for no reason. This stuff is ADDICTING! My mom made a batch using saltine crackers one year for Christmas and we were like “mom, you’ve clearly been holding out on us”! My husband, especially, is known for eating more than his fair share when it comes to Christmas crack. This year I took it to a whole new level and used buttery Ritz crackers (as if 2 sticks of butter isn’t already enough in this recipe) and combined rich peanut butter chips with semi-sweet. So good!

Unlike toffee that’s more like brittle, this Ritz cracker crack has a buttery tender bottom (no broken teeth here) and the perfect crisp, chewy texture. It practically melts in your mouth.

Ingredients for Chocolate Peanut Butter Ritz Cracker Christmas Crack:

  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Ritz crackers
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Peanut butter chips
  • Roasted pecans

Substitutions:

Saltine crackers can be used in place of the Ritz and use your favorite chocolate baking chips such as milk or dark chocolate. Butter scotch chips would also be a great addition. And if you don’t like pecans, almonds and hazelnuts also work great, or leave the nuts off all together.

How to make Ritz Cracker Crack:

Step 1. Preheat oven to 400℉. Place Ritz crackers in a single layer on a large sheet pan that’s been lined with foil and sprayed heavily with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2. Melt butter and brown sugar in a small pot over the stove on medium low heat. Once melted and bubbling, allow to bubble for 3-4 minutes until thickened and resembles a dark caramel color, but making sure it doesn’t burn.

Step 3. Immediately pour toffee caramel mixture evenly over Ritz crackers. Use a small spatula to spread over each cracker. Place in the oven for 5-minutes. Turn off the oven and remove the pan.

Step 4. While the crackers and toffee are hot, sprinkle the top evenly with the chocolate and peanut butter chips. Allow to sit for 5-minutes. You can also pop this back in the warm oven that’s been turned off for 2-3 minutes to help melt the chips faster.

Step 5. Once the chips are soft, use a small knife or spatula to spread evenly over the crackers. Top with chopped pecans and allow to sit at room temperature for 30-minutes. Place in the fridge or freezer to harden. Once it’s firm, break into large or small pieces and enjoy!

Make Ahead:

Ritz Christmas Crack will last 2 months or more in the freezer in a sealed container and up to 1 week in the refrigerator.

Tips:

  • For best results, keep Ritz cracker crack in the refrigerator in an airtight container until ready to serve or give away. This will be easier to handle as the chocolate on top will soften when left out too long at room temperature.
  • Spray foil lined baking sheet with a generous amount of non-stick cooking spray. Or you can spread a thin layer of butter down first. When you think you’ve sprayed too much, do a bit more.
  • Keep a close eye on the crackers in the oven as they can go from perfect to burnt very quickly.
  • Don’t walk away from the butter and brown sugar. This also can burn quickly so adjust the temperature as needed.
