Why You’ll Love Pimento Cheese Dip:
- It’s the ultimate cheese lovers snack.
- Super fast to make with just a few ingredients.
- Customizable using your favorite cheeses.
- Always a crowd pleaser.
One of my favorite snacks after school when I was growing up was pimento cheese dip and celery. My mom would buy a small jar from the grocery store and I loved it. When I got married I was gifted a Paula Deen cook book titled “kitchen classics”. The recipe I made most out of that cook book was her homemade pimento cheese dip. It was so easy to make and so much better than the store bought jarred stuff. I’ve been making a version of that dip ever since!
What Is Pimento Cheese Dip?
Pimento Cheese Dip features ingredients like cream cheese, mayo, cheese, pimentos, and simple spices. A super cheesy snack commonly served with buttered crackers and veggie sticks. While this dip is best known for it’s rich southern ingredients, it actually originated in northern New York? If you’re a nerd like me when it comes to stuff like this you can read more about it here.
What are pimentos?
Pimentos are red sweet peppers that are not spicy at all. The taste is mild and adds a nice sweetness to any dish. They can usually be found in small jars at the grocery store where they keep the pickled items.

Ingredients For Pimento Cheese Dip:
- Cream cheese
- Mayo
- Green onion
- Salad supreme seasoning (or seasoning salt)
- Green tabasco (optional)
- Black pepper
- Monterey Jack cheese
- Sharp cheddar cheese
- Diced pimentos
Mayo Substitute:
You’ll be happy to know you don’t have to use mayo if you’re not a fan. Full-fat sour cream and even Greek yogurt works great as a substitute. If using Greek yogurt it will lend a tangier flavor. Make sure to use full-fat yogurt for best results.
Other Cheese options:
Cheddar cheese is a classic pimento cheese ingredient but there are other cheese options that add great flavor – Pepper Jack (which adds a nice spice) Colby Jack, or even Gouda cheese for a Smokey flavor.
A quick and easy snack to make:
My favorite thing about making pimento cheese dip is how quick and easy it is to make. It’s a great last minute appetizer or snack idea if you’re headed to a party. Everything goes into the food processor with a few quick pulses and it’s ready to eat!
More Than Just A Dip:
Pimento cheese dip is more than just an appetizer. It’s great for spreading on sandwiches, wraps and burgers, or use as a condiment for chicken, or baked potatoes, yum!

How To Make Pimento Cheese Dip:
- Add all the ingredients except the pimentos to a food processor. Pulse until desired texture. You definitely want some bits of cheese throughout. Stir in well drained pimentos or pulse a few times until it just comes together. Serve with your favorite crackers and veggies.
How Long Does Pimento Dip Last?
Homemade pimento cheese dip will last up to 10 days in the refrigerator if stored properly. I use an airtight container and keep it in the cheese drawer.
Can I serve This Dip Hot?
For this recipe I recommend serving it cold. Although it wouldn’t taste bad if you decided to warm up a small serving in the microwave. For a hot version of this dip try this recipe.
