  • Low-carb and keto friendly.
  • A perfect meal for the meat lover in your life.
  • Cheesy, beefy, and super delicious.

This meal was inspired by Jen at Whole Lotta Yum. She makes awesome recipes including plenty of low-carb/keto friendly dinners that my family has really enjoyed. I’m always on the lookout for new ideas so everyone in our family can enjoy meal time whether they’re low-carb or not.

Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches is something my husband orders often if he sees it on a restaurant menu, so I was eager to find and create a recipe that still had a beefy and cheesy vibe without the added carbs. This Low-carb Philly Cheesesteak Skillet Meal did not disappoint, and as a-matter-of-fact, I got the “wow” response when my hubs took his first bite. It truly is so filling and satisfying it has become one of our favorite meals to make on rotation.

  • Beef steak (such as ribeye, sirloin, or flank steak)
  • Onion
  • Green bell peppers
  • Button mushrooms
  • Cream cheese
  • Beef broth
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Dry onion soup mix (homemade or store-bought)
  • Italian seasoning
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper

What is the best steak for Philly cheesesteaks?

Ribeye is the original choice for Philly cheesesteak sandwiches but other meats that work great are sirloin, flank steak, filet mignon, and skirt steak. When cut thin and against the grain, the meat will come out soft and tender.

Don’t care to loose the carbs?

We have had this Low-Carb Philly Cheesesteak Skillet Meal several different ways. This recipe is delicious as is but if you don’t want to loose the carbs, the meat and veggies is perfect stuffed in a toasted hoagie roll, over egg noodles or rice, and it’s even tasty on an oven baked potato. So many options.

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1. Heat oven to 350℉. Heat oil in a large oven safe skillet to medium high heat and add beef, onion soup mix, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Cook beef for 3-4 minutes. There should still be some pink on the meat. Transfer beef to a plate leaving behind 2 tablespoons of grease.

Step 2. Add veggies to the hot pan and cook until softened and mushrooms are starting to brown. Stir in cream cheese, beef broth, Worcestershire, and garlic powder.

Step 3. Once the cream cheese is melted add the beef and its juice’s back to the pan and stir to combine. Top with provolone cheese and bake in the oven for 15-minutes. Top with fresh parsley and serve.

What if I don’t have an oven safe skillet?

If you don’t have an oven safe skillet, transfer beef and veggies to a 9×13 inch casserole dish and top with cheese. Bake as directed in oven.

Tips:

  • Be careful not to overcook the beef. It should still be pink after the first cooking time. This will ensure the most tender Philly cheesesteak.
  • Use softened cream cheese to melt faster.
  • Add other cheese like pepper Jack, or Monterey Jack.
