Many years ago my sister-in-law hosted a party for a friend having a baby. All the details were executed so perfectly as they always are when she hosts. If you’ve ever been invited to one of her luncheons or DIY parties you know how special they are.

The baby shower had a simple yet elegant table with delicious bites and a couple salads. One of the salads she served was a simple strawberry salad with berries, spinach, and a yummy poppy seed dressing I couldn’t get enough of. I loved it so much, I’ve been making a version of it ever since.

For the 4th of July this year I decided to elevate the salad by adding fresh blueberries and feta cheese. The combo of the berries and salty feta, with the sweet and tangy poppy seed dressing is heaven! It’s a beautiful colorful salad that’s festive and fresh. Everyone will love it.

Ingredients For Berry Salad and Poppy Seed Dressing:

  • Baby Spinach or spring mix
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Fresh Blueberries
  • Feta Cheese Crumbles

Dressing:

  • Avocado or olive oil
  • Apple cider vinegar rice vinegar or white wine vinegar work as well
  • Honey
  • Toasted sesame seeds
  • Poppy seeds
  • Onion
  • Worcestershire
  • Paprika
  • Black pepper

How to Assemble Berry Salad:

  1. Add all dressing ingredients to a mason jar with fitted lid and shake well. Set aside or refrigerate until ready to dress the salad.
  2. Lay out lettuce greens in a wide bowl or large platter. Top salad with strawberries, blueberries and feta cheese. If serving right away drizzle dressing over salad and toss gently. You may not need to use all of the dressing.

This is a great salad to throw together when you don’t have a lot of time. If I’m taking this to a party or BBQ, I assemble the salad on a platter, then dress it with the poppy seed dressing just before serving.

Other Berries And Fruit That Work Great For Berry Salad:

  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Grapes
  • Kiwi
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines

You can also swap out the feta cheese for shaved parmesan or fresh mozzarella pearls. Or leave the cheese off altogether. It will still be delicious!

Whether you decide to make this for the holiday weekend, a side dish with dinner, or a simple lunch, you and your guests will love the flavors of this Berry Salad.

Notes

Tips:
Assembling the salad- If you’re taking this to a party or BBQ, leave off the dressing until just before serving. That way the spinach leaves don’t wilt before your guests get to enjoy it.
Use other berries or fruit-
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Grapes
  • Kiwi
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines
If you don’t like feta cheese- Use shaved parmesan or mozzarella pearls in place of feta cheese. Or leave off the cheese for a dairy free salad.
