French onion dip was a childhood favorite and it has continued to be a staple snack for all our special occasions. As our extended family has grown it is never enough to just make a single batch. We go through this stuff like it’s our last meal on earth! Adults, kids, everyone loves French onion dip.

My best friend gifted me a homemade French onion mix for Christmas last year and it was awesome! I couldn’t believe how much it resembled what I usually buy only without the laundry list of ingredients.

Making your own Homemade French Onion Dip doesn’t have to be complicated. My version is basically 2 ingredients with a few seasonings. It takes 5-minutes or less to make and it comes out thick and creamy. The flavor is rich with a pleasant onion flavor everyone will absolutely love!

What is the difference between French onion Dip and Onion Dip?

French onion dip gets its unique taste from bouillon beef base. This gives it a rich umami flavor. Onion dip is primarily made with onions and few a spices.

Ingredients For Easy French Onion Dip:

Showing ingredients. Better than bouillon beef base, sour cream, herbs, and seasonings.

How To Make Easy Homemade French Onion Dip:

Step 1. Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and stir until well combined.

Step 2. You’ll want to refrigerate the dip for at least 30-minutes before diving in. This will give a chance for the dried onions to soften and the flavors to blend.

The hardest part about this recipe is that 30-minute wait time but I promise it’s worth it!

What to serve with onion dip:

Classic ruffled potato chips are always a must but Frito scoops (original corn chips) are so yummy. Carrot and celery sticks are great for those that want something a little lighter. Also mini peppers and whole button mushrooms are a perfect addition.
